Hello Yet Again!! (December, 2003)

As foreshadowed in my last rant, the new CD, Crazy Old World, has become a reality, and has been well received. We were even given a cover story in the Columbus Weekly, Alive! (columbusalive.com/2003/20031023/) and invited to play live on Maggie Brennan’s show, the Global Village, WCBE 90.5 (wcbe.org).

We were really "on" at the CD Release parties at Little Brothers (littlebrothers.com) and the Stagecoach BBQ & Blues (stagecoachbbq.com), and the crowds loved us as much as we loved them. It was a tremendous high for me, and at least one (admittedly young) fan said it was the best live show he’d ever seen. Wow! Makes the old fat man float in the ozone.

Another "THANK YOU!" to my friend Ron Hester (ronhester.com), singer/song-writer, painter, photographer, the master of this website, and the artistic designer of both my CD’s. The Jive Turkeys, owing to an injury, were unable to perform at either CD release party. Fortunately, Ron was in town for some recording, and he stepped right into the fray. It was a good match – as you can tell by checking out the songs on his website. Sometimes beauty and order emerge from the chaos.

Circleville Pumpkin Show (pumpkinshow.com) was great fun as well. Brisk October weather, but the fingers didn’t freeze and we got to do our Ted Lewis song (rkounique.com/tedlewis1.htm), "When My Baby Smiles at Me," a favorite of ours and of Circleville, Lewis’ home town.

At Larry’s we and three other bands made some money for the local NION (Not In Our Name) organization, dedicated to stopping the war, stopping domestic and foreign oppression, and making a better world. At Shorty’s Pete and I debated with the bartender on the relative merits of PBR v. Bud (we drink PBR! and they didn’t have any). I did some rants at Victorian’s Midnight Café; Ty, Pete, and I did a show for the "Heifer" charity at Indianola Presbyterian Church.

Then, I was privileged to play (with a little help from Bob Hite) at the CD 101 "For the Kids" evening put on by CD 101’s Andyman (cd101.com/sections/onair/jocks/personal_page.asp?user_id=107). There was a big and appreciative crowd at the Promo West Pavilion. A great evening.
Pete and I have a "Duo Fest" gig coming up Dec. 12 at Andyman’s Tree House, and the band’s getting ready for a "Replacements-a-Thon at Little Brothers Dec. 13.

Well, that’s about it for now. Drop in again, and - PLEASE – e-mail the old geezer! It would be great to hear from you!!! (use the "Contact" option or: tom@ukuleleman.net).
