Twain - Food for Thought #1

Hey Folks,

As promised here is some comentary inspired by Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. ( The whole Uke Man short version of the story is at: http://www.ukuleleman.net/2006/03/complete-twain-postings.html )

from Chapter 8 – :

"Well, it was a curious country, and full of interest. And the people! They were the quaintest and simplest and trustingest race; why they were nothing but rabbits. It was pitiful for a person born in a wholesome free atmosphere to listen to their humble and hearty outpourings of loyalty toward their king and Church and nobility: as if they had any more occasion to love and honor king and Church and noble than a slave has to love and honor the lash, or a dog has to love and honor the stranger that kicks him! Why, dear me, ANY kind of royalty, howsoever modified, ANY kind of aristocracy, however pruned, is rightly an insult; but if you are born and brought up under that sort of arrangement you probably never find it out for yourself, and don’t believe it when somebody else tells you."

1. Do we live in a "curious country"?

2. Are too many of us quaint and simple and trusting? like rabbits ?

3. Do we humbly and heartily express our loyalty to those "above" us on the socio-economic-political ladder?

4. Do they deserve our humble loyalty?

5. Do we live under an economic aristocracy ? and is that an insult?

6. Will we ever find it out for ourselves?

7. Would you believe me if I told you?

Hey - as American Sheep we are not required to think - in fact - it's discouraged - after all - GW decides what's best (apparently in a room devoid of ideas or ideals).
Pretty damm sure I'm preaching to the choir here but hey - it's my turn on the soap box so what the hell.
Name another President, if you will, who acted in such a contained and complete vacuum of information and was so damm arrogant about it. Retired Military professionals question DR's leadership, GW thinks that's fine - that he's doing a good job (and with an OUTSTANDING record of military service (compared to Cheney) I suppose he should know ...) -
We're in Iraq 'cause we can't find Bin Laden (primary goal of the Afghanistan invasion, if you can remember that far back), where we didn't find WMD's (primary goal of the Iraq invasion, or at least the primary justification, as I recall) - at least we found Sadam (or some guy who looks like him).
We've got a guy facing the death penalty 'cause, when arrested on a charge not associated to the 9/11 stuff he didn't break down and confess all his sins to the FBI (who probably would have just said "right - what the f*ck are you smokin' kid?? and sent him on his way).
This nation of ours, once a place known for innovation and spirit, has become since the first GW administration, a mere shadow of the great nation it once was.
I'm no sheep - I won't sit back and take this bullsh*t - so I'm getting out there and singing protest songs all the time - as is Tom and a few other friends of mine - maybe it's time for everyone to get off their asses and do whatever they can to take this nation back -

Peace

Steve (hearing the faint ringing of revolution ... it's off in the distance .... but it's getting stronger every day)

Okay Baad Boys and Girls - and those not sure which side of the fence they want to be grazing!

I think the ringing Steve - and hopefully others - is hearing is the echoes of right and justice coming back -

And as 'they' say, what goes around, comes around - SO - with a little HOPE and LEFT brain thinking, we CAN get the manager of the team replaced -

After all, aren't WE really the owners? -

Aren't WE responsible for our futures? -

Every time I hear The Emperor Chimp say he's sticking with Rummy, well, I can't help but think of 'insert sport's team manager name here' - the owner constantly says he won't replace him because the team is losing - then one morning, you flip open the sports page, pop on the tv, or fire up your PC - and what do you see: BLAHBLAH was fired - new manager named by owner!

WELL - FOLKS and FOLKETTES -

THAT BE US! - we've got to take back what is ours!

Remember THAT when you hit those hopefully-non rigged- election booths!

Take Care - and be sure to pull the lever on the LEFT!

Phyll
